St. Augustine Floratam
Stenotaphrum secundatum ‘Floratam’
South Florida’s classic full-sun lawn — wide, blue-green blades and fast fill-in.
- Sun: Full sun (6+ hrs)
- Texture: Coarse, wide blade
- Best for: Front lawns, large yards, new construction

Floratam, Palmetto, Empire Zoysia, Bermuda and Bahia — picked up at the nursery, delivered by our trucks, or installed by RGS crews after professional grading.
The right sod depends on sun, traffic, irrigation and how much maintenance you want. Most Miami lawns do best with Floratam in full sun, Palmetto where part of the yard is shaded, or Empire Zoysia where you want a denser, more premium look. Large open areas and swales are often a better fit for Bahia, and active full-sun yards for Bermuda.
Because RGS owns its delivery trucks, Bobcats and installation crews, a sod job does not have to be three vendors. We can strip the old lawn, grade, bring topsoil, lay the sod and leave you with a watering plan.

Yes. New sod needs direct contact with clean, level soil. We can kill-off and strip old turf, remove debris, grade with our Bobcats and add topsoil before laying sod.
Keep the sod and soil underneath moist for the first two weeks — typically short cycles once or twice a day depending on heat and rain — then taper to deep, less frequent watering as roots knit. Follow Miami-Dade or your city’s watering rules; newly installed landscaping usually has an establishment allowance.
No warm-season grass loves deep shade. Empire Zoysia handles light shade better than Floratam or Bermuda. For heavy shade under oaks, we may recommend a shade-tolerant groundcover or mulch bed instead.
