Answers to common questions
Where is RGS Nursery?
18800 SW 137th Ave, Miami, FL 33177. Open Monday–Saturday 7 AM–5 PM and Sunday 8 AM–3 PM.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Our team serves customers in English and Spanish every day.
What areas do you serve?
Miami-Dade and Broward for delivery and installation, plus scheduled large projects in Palm Beach County and the Florida Keys.
Do you publish prices?
Plant, sod and material prices change with supply. Call, text or request a quote for today’s price.
Can I send photos for a quote?
Yes — upload them on the quote form or text them to 786.681.4337.
How much area does one pallet of sod cover?
Empire Zoysia pallets cover about 400 square feet and Palmetto St. Augustine pallets cover about 500 square feet. Coverage for other varieties varies by farm, so we confirm the exact number when we quote. Order about 5% extra for cuts, curves and edges.
How often should I water new sod?
2–3 short waterings a day for the first 7–10 days, then once a day with about ¼ inch, then every other day with about ½ inch. Most lawns are rooted in 3–4 weeks. See our new sod watering guide for the full schedule.
Can you deliver sod the same day?
Often, yes, when the variety is in stock and our trucks have a slot in your area. Call or text before noon for the best chance. Large orders and Broward or Palm Beach deliveries are usually scheduled ahead.
Do I need to remove my old grass first?
Yes. New sod needs direct contact with clean, level soil. We can kill-off and strip old turf, remove debris, grade with our Bobcats and add topsoil before laying sod.
How often should I water new sod in South Florida?
Keep the sod and soil underneath moist for the first two weeks — typically short cycles once or twice a day depending on heat and rain — then taper to deep, less frequent watering as roots knit. Follow Miami-Dade or your city’s watering rules; newly installed landscaping usually has an establishment allowance.
Which sod is best for shade?
No warm-season grass loves deep shade. Empire Zoysia handles light shade better than Floratam or Bermuda. For heavy shade under oaks, we may recommend a shade-tolerant groundcover or mulch bed instead.
Which hedge grows fastest for privacy in Miami?
Clusia and Podocarpus are the most common privacy choices. Clusia fills in fast and handles wind and salt; Podocarpus gives a narrow, formal look. Cocoplum and silver buttonwood are strong native options.
How far apart should privacy hedges be planted?
As a starting point, 3-gallon plants are often set about 2–2.5 ft apart and 7-gallon plants about 2.5–3 ft apart for a quicker screen. Spacing depends on the plant, height goal and budget — we’ll recommend a count.
Can you install the hedge too?
Yes. We deliver, prep the bed, plant with quality soil, mulch and set up a watering plan. Larger runs and HOA projects can be scheduled in phases.
Do I need HOA approval?
Many HOAs regulate hedge height and placement. Check your community rules before ordering — we can share plant specs for your submission.
